Job summary

Hutt City Council is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join our Information Services team in Lower Hutt. This permanent, full-time role focuses on keeping Council's technology secure, reliable and resilient to enable service delivery for the Te Awakairangi community.

You’ll work with a range of technologies, monitor security alerts, respond to incidents, and collaborate with internal teams and external providers to strengthen our cyber security environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on cyber security operations experience.
• Experience with security monitoring and detection tools, especially Microsoft Sentinel and Defender.
• Knowledge of cloud security, including Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 security technologies.
• Experience investigating complex security incidents, assessing risks and recommending practical solutions.
• Understanding of cyber security frameworks and best practices (NZISM, NIST, CIS Controls).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and collaboration abilities.
• Certifications such as CISSP/CISM/Microsoft security are advantageous.
• Experience with Fortinet SASE or Zero Trust environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support, maintain and improve Council's core cyber security platforms.
• Monitor and investigate security alerts, identify threats and respond to incidents.
• Configure and optimise security monitoring tools, detection rules and controls.
• Support vulnerability management, security testing and risk management.
• Provide technical expertise during complex security incidents, including containment and remediation.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external security providers to strengthen security.
• Provide guidance on cyber security matters, including new technologies and projects.
• Support security assurance, compliance and continuous improvement.
• Share knowledge with the Security Analyst and wider Information Services team.
