Job summary

Stats NZ is seeking a Senior Security/DevSecOps Solutions Engineer to drive security uplift, operating at the intersection of development, operations, and security, in Wellington.

You will provide technical leadership on secure cloud, infrastructure, middleware, and applications, shape design decisions, promote security-by-design, and collaborate across teams. This 12-month fixed-term role supports the Security Uplift Programme and strengthens Stats NZ's security capability and resilience.

Qualifications

• Experience embedding privacy and security-by-design in cloud and application environments.
• Strong collaboration across delivery teams, infra, architects, and data specialists.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Deep knowledge of cloud security practices, controls, and standards.
• Experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating security risks and supporting compliance.
• Understanding of security assurance, certification, and accreditation processes.
• Continuous improvement mindset balancing security with operations and business needs.
• Commitment to public service values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
• Personal accountability for health, safety, and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on secure cloud, infrastructure, middleware, and application solutions.
• Contribute to planning and design decisions and adopt secure cloud technologies.
• Build relationships across the Technology Services branch.
