Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 16th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Client Manager who knows their stuff, genuinely enjoys working with clients and wants to be part of a team that works hard, has fun and creates a positive experience for both clients and colleagues.

Welcome to Maisey Harris & Co. Our core values are at the heart of everything we do.

Maisey Harris & Co is not your typical Chartered Accounting firm. We are all about challenging the status quo! We take a fresh approach to supporting businesses, with a strong focus on business planning and growth.

We prioritise our people, and we mean it. One of our team perks is that, around midday on Fridays, the team finishes work while still being paid for the full day, giving you a genuine head start on the weekend. We trust our team to manage their workload, meet deadlines and make sure there’s nothing outstanding that needs to be left behind before they clock off. Add in team lunches, regular fitness sessions and a collaborative, fun-loving team that celebrates wins together, and you will quickly see why MHCo is a little different.

We invest in technology and continually improve our systems and processes so our team can work efficiently, stay ahead and spend more time focusing on clients and the work that genuinely adds value.

About the Role

As a Senior Client Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of clients and be their trusted advisor and primary point of contact. You will oversee high-quality compliance work, provide proactive and commercially sound advice, and help clients move forward with clarity and confidence.

You will also be an important coach within the accounting team, supporting other accountants to develop their technical skills, confidence and judgement, while keeping on top of your own client portfolio, workflow and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships through regular communication and proactive conversations

Plan and manage client work from start to finish, keeping on top of workflow, deadlines, budgets and WIP

Oversee and review financial statements, tax returns, GST returns, management reports and other compliance work

Provide practical tax advice and identify risks, opportunities and solutions for clients

Deliver and support advisory services, including business planning, client coaching and cashflow forecasting

Work closely with the partners on complex technical, advisory and client matters

Coach and support other accountants through knowledge sharing, clear guidance and constructive review feedback

Identify opportunities to add value for clients and connect them with MHCo's wider advisory and business development services

Contribute ideas that improve our systems, client experience and the way our team works

Skills & Experience

Proven senior-level experience within a New Zealand Chartered Accounting practice, including ownership of a client portfolio and engagements from start to finish

CA qualified, or an experienced senior accounting professional with an equivalent level of technical capability and relevant tertiary qualifications

Strong technical knowledge of New Zealand taxation, financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including the confidence to handle complex compliance matters

Demonstrated experience reviewing work and coaching other accountants to build their technical capability and confidence

Strong client relationship skills and the confidence to have proactive, practical and sometimes challenging conversations

Commercially minded, with the ability to see beyond compliance and identify meaningful insights and opportunities

Experience in, or a genuine interest in developing, advisory services such as business planning, client coaching and cashflow forecasting

Highly organised and self-driven, with the ability to manage competing priorities and follow through on commitments

Strong working knowledge of Xero or MYOB accounting software; experience across both platforms would be an advantage

A collaborative, down-to-earth approach and a genuine willingness to share knowledge, support others and enjoy a laugh along the way

Why You'll Enjoy Working With Us

A supportive, people-first team that works hard and celebrates success together

Genuine work-life balance with great employee perks

A dedicated car park and work phone provided

Team lunches and regular team fitness classes

Modern, cloud-based systems and a focus on working smarter and adding value

Interesting client work across both compliance and advisory services

The autonomy to own client relationships and make a genuine impact

A culture where ideas, development and helping others succeed are encouraged

If you are ready to put the pedal to the metal and bring your technical expertise, client focus and coaching skills to MHCo, we would love to hear from you.
