Job summary

Miller Gale & Winter Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors in Christchurch is seeking an experienced accountant for a part-time role (25–30 hours/week). You will work with partners to deliver high-quality accounting, tax and compliance services for small-to-medium businesses and individuals.

Ideal candidates are CA/CPA qualified or have 10+ years in a senior CA role, with strong NZ tax knowledge, Xero proficiency and the ability to work independently while collaborating with the team.

Qualifications

• Qualified CA/CPA or equivalent with strong NZ tax knowledge.
• 5+ years experience in CA or professional services.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple jobs.
• Confident using Xero and practice management systems.
• Strong communication and client relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements, tax returns and workpapers to a high standard.
• Manage client compliance deadlines and tax notices.
• Assist with bookkeeping reviews, payroll and Xero-related queries.
• Prepare and review workpapers for partner sign-off.
• Provide practical advice and support to clients on accounting and tax matters.
• Support the team with practice management and ad-hoc work.

Miller Gale & Winter Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors – Christchurch, South Island

We are a well established chartered accounting practice seeking an experienced accountant to join our team on a part-time basis. This is an ideal role for a capable professional who wants meaningful client work without the demands of full-time hours.

You will work closely with partners and other team members to deliver high-quality accounting, tax and compliance services to a diverse range of primarily small-to-medium businesses and individual clients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements, tax returns (income tax, GST) and supporting workpapers to a high standard
• Manage client compliance deadlines and tax notices
• Assist with bookkeeping reviews, payroll, and Xero-related queries
• Prepare and review workpapers for partner sign-off
• Provide practical advice and support to clients on day-to-day accounting and tax matters
• Contribute to the smooth running of jobs within Xero Practice Manager (or similar practice management software)
• Support the team with general client queries and ad-hoc work as required

About you

• A qualified accountant (CA, CPA, or equivalent) with 5+ years' experience in a CA or professional services firm; or
• An accountant with 10+ years' experience in a CA or professional services firm and working at a senior level
• Strong technical knowledge of New Zealand tax and financial reporting requirements
• Confident using Xero and practice management systems
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple jobs and deadlines
• Clear communicator who builds good relationships with both clients and colleagues
• Comfortable working independently while still being a collaborative team member

• Part-time: 25–30 hours per week (days and times to be discussed)
