Job summary

SYOS Aerospace is seeking a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team in New Zealand. You will own and deliver core software components for autonomous vehicles, contributing across the full software lifecycle.

You'll work with robotics, aerospace, and real-time systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design, implement, test, and optimise software for performance and reliability. Linux, ROS, Python, and CI/CD are part of the daily toolkit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of commercial C++ software development experience.
• Experience in robotics, aerospace, autonomous or real-time software desirable.
• Strong understanding of OOP, data structures and software design principles.
• Experience using Git or similar version control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Genuine interest in robotics, autonomous systems and emerging technologies.
• Experience developing in a Linux environment.
• Experience with Python, ROS or embedded systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing or Docker.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test software applications for autonomous vehicle systems.
• Write clean, efficient and maintainable C++ code following software engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls and other engineering teams to integrate software into our vehicles.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
• Debug, profile and optimise software for performance, reliability and maintainability.
• Contribute to structured Git repositories, build systems and development workflows.
• Take ownership of assigned software modules and projects.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, tools and industry practices.
