Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer or Buyer to partner with project teams across Energy & Utilities in Auckland. You will source materials and services that support critical infrastructure projects, manage supplier engagement, negotiations and procurement planning to drive safe, efficient and cost-effective outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in procurement, contract management, or project management.
  • Strong sourcing, negotiation and supplier management experience.
  • Knowledge of source-to-contract and procure-to-pay processes.
  • Experience with ERP, procurement or project management systems.
  • Relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering or Project Management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead sourcing and contracting activities, including RFx processes and supplier negotiations.
  • Develop procurement plans aligned to project and contract requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with project teams and suppliers as a procurement partner.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement performance.
  • Manage procurement risks related to cost, quality and schedule.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with standards and delegated authority.
  • Use systems including JDEGS, Felix, InEight and Dynamics to support project delivery.

As a Senior Buyer or Buyer, you'll partner with project teams across Energy & Utilities to source the materials and services that support the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects. From supplier engagement and commercial negotiations through to procurement planning and risk management, you'll play an important role in achieving safe, efficient and cost-effective project outcomes.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead sourcing and contracting activities, including RFx processes and supplier negotiations.
  • Develop procurement plans aligned to project and contract requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with project teams and suppliers, acting as a trusted procurement partner.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and improve procurement performance.
  • Manage procurement risks relating to cost, quality and schedule.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company standards, procurement processes and delegated authority requirements.
  • Use systems including JDEGS, Felix, InEight and Dynamics to support project delivery.

Working closely with project delivery teams, you'll help ensure procurement activities are planned, compliant and aligned with project requirements. You'll also build strong supplier relationships and contribute to achieving safe, efficient and cost effective project outcomes.

You'll bring:
  • 5+ years' experience in procurement, contract management or project management within construction, utilities, infrastructure, oil and gas, or a similar industry.
  • Strong sourcing, negotiation and supplier management experience.
  • Knowledge of source to contract and procure to pay processes.
  • Strong commercial, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience using ERP, procurement or project management systems.
  • A relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline.
