Job summary

Tauranga City Council is seeking a Senior Business Analyst (Business Intelligence) to lead analytics initiatives and translate complex business needs into trusted data solutions. You will collaborate with BI developers, data engineers and GIS experts to deliver dashboards and reporting that drive informed decisions for the city.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering business analysis in data warehouse, reporting, BI, analytics or data-focused environments.
• Experience leading discovery, requirements gathering, workshops and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, data integration, data modelling and analytical reporting concepts.
• Ability to translate business needs into clear and actionable analytical requirements.
• Experience influencing stakeholders, challenging assumptions and guiding solution direction.
• Strong communication, facilitation and relationship management skills.
• Collaborative and customer-focused approach with interest in continuous improvement and human-centred thinking.
• Knowledge of new technologies, including AI.

Responsibilities

• Lead business analysis activities that support trusted, fit-for-purpose data and analytics solutions.
• Understand business challenges, opportunities and outcomes with stakeholders.
• Lead discovery, workshops and elicitation for data initiatives.
• Translate business needs into clear business, functional and analytical requirements.
• Develop requirements for reporting, dashboarding, data warehouse and analytics solutions.
• Partner with BI Developers, Data Engineers and solution specialists to ensure requirements are understood and delivered.
• Provide trusted advice on options, impacts and opportunities to improve decision making.
• Help stakeholders adopt and realise value from delivered solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in analytics delivery and data-driven decision-making practices.
