Job summary

Tauranga City Council is seeking a Senior Business Analyst (Business Intelligence) to lead analytics initiatives and translate complex business needs into trusted data solutions. You will collaborate with BI developers, data engineers and GIS experts to deliver dashboards and reporting that drive informed decisions for the city.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering business analysis in data warehouse, reporting, BI, analytics or data-focused environments.
  • Experience leading discovery, requirements gathering, workshops and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data integration, data modelling and analytical reporting concepts.
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear and actionable analytical requirements.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders, challenging assumptions and guiding solution direction.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and relationship management skills.
  • Collaborative and customer-focused approach with interest in continuous improvement and human-centred thinking.
  • Knowledge of new technologies, including AI.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join our Business Intelligence team.

What You will Be Doing

You will lead business analysis activities that support the delivery of trusted, fit-for-purpose data and analytics solutions.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business challenges, opportunities and desired outcomes.
  • Lead discovery, workshops and requirements elicitation activities for data and analytics initiatives.
  • Translate business needs into clear business, functional and analytical requirements.
  • Develop requirements that support reporting, dashboarding, data warehouse and analytics solutions.
  • Partner with BI Developers, Data Engineers and solution specialists to ensure requirements are understood and successfully delivered.
  • Provide trusted advice on solution options, business impacts and opportunities to improve decision making.
  • Help stakeholders adopt and realise value from delivered solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in business analysis, analytics delivery and data-driven decision-making practices.

Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for someone with strong business analysis expertise, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and a proven ability to deliver successful outcomes within a Business Intelligence and Reporting environment.

  • Proven experience delivering business analysis activities within data warehouse, reporting, business intelligence, analytics or data-focused environments.
  • Experience leading discovery, requirements gathering, workshop facilitation and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data integration, data modelling and analytical reporting concepts.
  • The ability to translate business needs into clear and actionable analytical requirements.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders, challenging assumptions and guiding solution direction.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and relationship management skills.
  • A collaborative and customer-focused approach, with an interest in continuous improvement and human-centred thinking.
  • Knowledge of new and upcoming technologies, including AI.

Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Power Platform, GIS solutions or Agile delivery environments would be advantageous.
