Job summary

M2 Overland in Napier, Hawke's Bay, is seeking a Senior Assembly Technician to join our production team. You will work hands-on assembling canopies, trays, hard lids and accessories, reading drawings and testing electrical systems.

Ideal candidates will have strong mechanical ability, automotive 12V electrical experience, and a passion for mentoring others on the shop floor. This is a senior technical role on the floor, not a people-management position.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical ability for complex builds.
• Experience with automotive 12V electrical systems is a major advantage.
• Ability to read assembly drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Willingness to train and support less experienced technicians.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and fit M2 Overland products in the workshop.
• Install locks, seals, hinges, lighting and central locking.
• Test automotive 12V electrical systems and accessories.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams and drawings.
• Diagnose faults with multimeters and test gear.
• Lead by example on quality checks and first-off builds.
• Assist training of less experienced technicians.
• Identify improvements to assembly processes.

M2 Overland designs and manufactures premium Ute canopies, trays, hard lids and accessories right here in Hawke's Bay.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Assembly Technician to join our production team in Napier.

This isn't just a basic assembly role. We're looking for someone with strong mechanical ability who can take ownership of more complex builds, troubleshoot problems and become one of the technical go-to people within our Assembly team.

Automotive or 12V electrical experience would be a major advantage.

What you'll be doing

You'll be hands-on in our workshop assembling and fitting M2 Overland products, including:

• Mechanical assembly of canopies, trays, hard lids, toolboxes and accessories
• Installing locks, seals, hinges, lighting and central locking systems
• Installing and testing automotive 12V electrical systems and accessories
• Working with wiring looms, switches, relays, fuses, connectors and LED lighting
• Reading assembly drawings, work instructions and basic wiring diagrams
• Using multimeters and test equipment to diagnose electrical faults
• Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical assembly issues
• Completing quality and functional checks before products leave Assembly
• Working on prototypes, new products and first-off builds
• Helping train and support less experienced Assembly Technicians
• Identifying better ways to assemble products and reduce rework

You’ll work closely with our Production Supervisor but this isn't a people-management position. We're looking for someone who wants to be a senior technical person on the floor and lead through their knowledge, workmanship and attitude.

What we're looking for

• Automotive accessory installation
• Auto electrical / automotive 12V systems
• Ute, 4WD or vehicle fit-outs
• Canopies, service bodies, trailers or RVs
• Mechanical or technical assembly
• Metal fabrication or manufacturing
