Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers is seeking a Senior Accountant on a fixed-term basis (8–12 months) to cover maternity leave. Part-time options (30–40 hours) are possible, with hybrid work and an initial on-site period to settle in and build team relationships.

The role focuses on month-end close, management reporting, cashflow forecasting, tax/compliance, and financial controls, with oversight of the finance team.

Qualifications

• Qualified senior accountant with evident ownership of month-end close and management reporting.
• NZ tax and compliance experience; payroll processing or review is a plus.
• ERP experience, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365.
• Inventory or product-based business experience is essential; manufacturing cost knowledge is advantageous.
• Experience supervising or coaching junior accounting staff is highly preferred.
• Strong Excel skills; ability to present to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close for group entities and perform balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly consolidated and entity-level management reports for leadership and Board.
• Maintain rolling cashflow forecasts and flag variances.
• Oversee Accounts Receivable/Payable with first-approval on payments.
• Review payroll weekly and provide first approval on payroll runs.
• Review and submit GST, FBT, NRWT and PAYE returns.

Job description

We're looking for a Senior Accountant on a fixed-term basis . The fixed-term is between 8–12 months to cover maternity leave, with the exact end date to be confirmed closer to the employee's return. We're open to part-time hours if that suits — between 30–40 hours a week works. Hybrid working is available, though you'll be on‑site full‑time for the first few months to settle in and build strong working relationships with the team.

About the role

This role maintains continuity of the Senior Accountant function during the maternity-leave period — month-end close, management reporting, cashflow forecasting, tax and compliance, finance systems and controls, and day-to-day oversight of the finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Owning month-end close for Propspeed International Limited and Propspeed USA Inc, including balance sheet reconciliations
• Preparing monthly management reports (consolidated and entity level) for Senior Leadership Team and Board reporting
• Maintaining rolling cashflow forecasts and flagging material variances
• Overseeing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, with first-approval responsibility on payments
• Reviewing weekly payroll and providing first approval
• Reviewing and submitting GST, FBT, NRWT and PAYE returns
• Acting as a key finance contact for Microsoft Dynamics 365
• Supervising the Assistant Accountant, plus day‑to‑day oversight support for the Payroll and Accounts Assistant

About you

• Professional accountancy qualification (CA ANZ, CPA Australia or equivalent) — essential
• Demonstrated senior accounting experience with independent ownership of month-end close and management reporting
• Practical NZ tax and compliance experience, plus payroll processing or review experience
• Strong ERP experience — Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred
• Experience in an inventory or product-based business — essential; manufacturing or landed-cost experience is an advantage
• Previous experience supervising or coaching junior accounting staff — strongly preferred
• Strong practical Excel skills; Power BI is an advantage
• Sound judgement, high attention to detail, and a confident communicator with senior stakeholders
• Familiarity with US or Italian payroll, and general international tax or customs exposure, would be an advantage
• Right to work in New Zealand is required for this role
