Job summary

Spencers seeks a Management Accountant to join our Henderson-based Finance team. This is a full-time fixed-term maternity leave cover from November 2026 to December 2027, reporting to the Head of Finance.

The role supports management reporting across SMEs and larger organisations in New Zealand. Key responsibilities include preparing monthly management accounts with variance analysis, developing budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to senior management, and supporting cash flow

Qualifications

• 5+ years' management or financial accounting experience in New Zealand.
• Strong financial analysis with ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• CA or CPA qualifications preferred.
• Advanced Excel with modelling and data analysis.
• Experience with SQL for data extraction and reporting.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

Prepare and analyze monthly management accounts, including variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.

Develop annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and support input for long-term planning.

Provide financial insights and recommendations to support senior management.

Collaborate with department heads to track financial performance and ensure adherence to budgets.

Prepare detailed financial reports, dashboards, and KPIs for senior management.

Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data in compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.

Support business case development and financial modelling for new projects or investments.

Assist with cash flow management, working capital analysis, and financial risk assessment.

Provide support for audits and statutory reporting.

Other responsibilities include preparing ad hoc reports as assigned by the Reporting Manager.

To be successful in this role you must have

5+ years' management and/or financial accounting experience across SMEs and large organisations in New Zealand.

Strong financial analysis skills - ability to interpret financial data and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

CA or CPA qualifications preferred.

Advanced Excel proficiency - including financial modelling, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.

Experience with SQL for data extraction and reporting.

High attention to detail and accuracy - ensuring precision in financial reporting and analysis.

Strong communication skills - ability to present financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

Ability to work well under pressure
