Job summary

BDO Northland in Kerikeri is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Business Advisory team, working closely with Partners on a diverse client portfolio across SMEs, trusts, farming and regional industries.

You will provide accounting, tax and advisory services, lead financial reporting, budgeting and cash-flow forecasting, and mentor junior staff while pursuing future leadership opportunities in a supportive Northland environment.

Qualifications

• At least four years of Business Advisory experience, with New Zealand public practice experience highly regarded.
• CA qualification or progress towards completion, supported by strong knowledge across accounting standards and New Zealand tax.
• Strong experience preparing financial statements, tax returns and management reports.
• Commercial, analytical and problem-solving capability, with excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Desire to build a long-term career in Northland and explore leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
• Deliver management reporting, budgeting, cash-flow forecasting and business performance analysis.
• Prepare tax returns and identify tax-planning and restructuring opportunities.
• Provide practical business advice that supports clients’ growth and strategic objectives.
• Manage client engagements, monitor job progress and maintain strong client relationships.
• Assist with trust matters, Companies Office requirements and accounting software implementations.
• Support and mentor junior team members through coaching and knowledge sharing.
