Job summary

BDO Auckland is seeking a Senior Accountant in our Business Advisory team to help a broad client portfolio make informed financial decisions. You will provide accounting, tax and advisory services, delivering financial reporting, budgeting, cashflow forecasting and client advisory across multiple industries.

In this hands-on role you will mentor junior colleagues, collaborate with Managers and Partners on complex matters, and contribute to ongoing client success while maintaining strong

Qualifications

• 3–4+ years' experience within Business Advisory Services in a CA environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CAANZ or ACCA qualification (or nearing completion).
• Strong experience preparing financial statements, tax returns and management reports.
• Exposure to Xero, MYOB and cloud-based accounting systems.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Deliver management reporting, budgeting, cashflow forecasting and business performance analysis.
• Prepare tax returns and identify tax planning and restructuring opportunities.
• Provide practical business advice that supports clients' growth and strategic objectives.
• Manage client engagements, monitor job progress and maintain strong client relationships.
• Assist with trust matters, Companies Office requirements and accounting software implementations.
• Support and mentor junior team members through coaching and knowledge sharing.

About the role

As a Senior Accountant in our Business Advisory team, you'll work closely with a broad portfolio of clients, helping them make informed business decisions and achieve their financial goals. This is a hands-on role offering exposure to financial reporting, management accounting, tax advisory, budgeting and cashflow forecasting, business planning and client advisory. You'll also have the opportunity to support and mentor junior team members while working closely with Managers and Partners on more complex client matters.
