Job summary

BDO Auckland is seeking a Manager to lead Financial Services audit engagements, mentor staff and build strong client relationships. You will work with Partners from planning to completion in a regulatory environment, coaching juniors and expanding expertise in financial services and assurance services.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality audits, managing budgets, and ensuring quality and risk management compliance. Based in New Zealand, permanent work rights are required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ audit experience in a professional services firm.
  • Experience with financial services clients, regulated entities or complex engagements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related discipline; professional qualifications required.

About the role

Join our growing Financial Services Audit & Assurance team and lead audit and assurance engagements for a diverse range of financial services clients. Working closely with our Partners, you'll manage engagements from planning through to completion, build strong client relationships, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a complex and evolving regulatory environment.

You'll also play a key leadership role within the team, coaching and developing junior staff while continuing to build your expertise across financial services, regulatory assurance and emerging assurance services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead audit and assurance engagements from planning through to completion, ensuring delivery is timely, efficient and of a high standard.
  • Manage engagements across financial services clients, including regulated entities and complex assurance environments.
  • Apply audit methodology, accounting standards and professional judgement to identify key risks and develop practical audit responses.
  • Manage team workflow, deadlines and engagement budgets, keeping Partners and stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Build strong client relationships and communicate clearly with client finance teams, senior executives and governance stakeholders.
  • Identify audit, accounting, controls or regulatory issues early and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with independence, ethics, quality and risk management requirements.
  • Coach and develop junior team members, providing regular feedback and supporting a positive learning culture.
  • Contribute to the technical capability of the wider team through knowledge sharing, training and on-the-job coaching.
  • Support the continued growth of BDO Auckland’s Financial Services Audit & Assurance offering.
Experience
  • 5+ years’ audit experience within a professional services environment.
  • Experience working with financial services clients, regulated entities or complex audit engagements.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • CA, CPA, ACA or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines and stakeholder expectations.
  • A genuine interest in financial services, assurance quality and developing others.
