Job summary

Stats NZ in Christchurch leads a high-profile transformation programme to build the Census Processing System. As Scrum Master, you will champion Agile ways of working, remove barriers, and empower cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑value outcomes across multiple workstreams.

You'll collaborate with Product Owners, architects, analysts, engineers and data specialists to drive continuous improvement and real value. This fixed‑term role ends 30 June 2027 and is based in Christchurch.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading Agile delivery across complex, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of Scrum, Nexus, Scrum-of-Scrums or other scaled Agile frameworks.
• Skilled coach who can build high-performing, self-organising teams and drive continuous improvement.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Strong planning, prioritisation and dependency management capability across multiple streams.
• Experience using delivery metrics and insights to support decision-making, transparency and successful outcomes.
• Collaborative, proactive mindset with a passion for delivering value in complex and evolving environments.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to strengthening cultural capability and responsiveness to Māori.

Join a high-profile transformation programme that is helping build the future of Census processing at Stats NZ. As Scrum Master, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering a modern, scalable Census Processing System that supports New Zealand's evolving data needs and long-term integrated data strategy. This is a fixed term role until 30 June 2027 based in Christchurch. Working alongside Product Owners, architects, analysts, engineers, data specialists and senior stakeholders, you'll champion Agile ways of working, remove barriers to success, and empower teams to deliver high-value outcomes. Starting salary for this position: $90,599- $122,575 + kiwisaver
