Job description

New Plymouth Girls' High School - New Plymouth, North Island

Permanent, full-time (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm, term time only

Grade C - Librarian in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, organised, creative, and confident person to join our staff and manage our busy school library.

This role is for someone who is passionate about libraries, literacy, and learning. Applicants will have a forward-thinking approach and an interest in how the school library can continue to meet the changing needs of students and staff, both now and in the future.

A strong candidate will
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging library environment.
  • Have experience working in a library, with an understanding of managing library collections, systems and budgets.
  • Promote and deliver a supportive and effective library service for all members of the school community, catering for diverse needs and interests.
  • Enjoy working with young people and have the ability to inspire and assist our students and staff.
  • Mentor our enthusiastic team of student librarians, fostering a positive culture of service and participation within the library.
  • Have a passion for young adult literature and bring creative ideas to foster a love of reading.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the wider school community.
  • Be confident using digital technologies and have strong computer, information, and digital literacy skills. Experience with library management systems would be an advantage.
As well as the traditional library responsibilities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and contribute to a range of programmes and initiatives that may include
  • Exhibition co-ordination and management.
  • Encourage the booking of the space for classes or groups.
  • Managing an electronic display board and keeping it up to date with schoolwide activities.
