Job summary

Rotorua Specialist School - Te Kura Pūkenga o Rotorua in Rotorua, NZ, seeks an enthusiastic, compassionate scale A teacher to join our team. Start date January 2027. We provide specialist education for students aged 5–21 with ORS High and Very High needs, valuing inclusive, strengths-based practice and wellbeing at the heart of our mahi.

Experience in specialist education is welcomed but not essential. We invite applicants from mainstream settings with a passion for special education to apply.

Qualifications

• Must be NZ registered teacher with current practising certificate.
• Legally entitled to work in NZ with a valid NZ work visa.
• Experience in specialist education welcomed but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Be a positive, flexible, and collaborative team member.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues.
• Have a genuine passion for supporting neurodiverse learners.
• Be committed to culturally responsive and inclusive practice.
• Work collaboratively with teacher aides, therapists and other professionals.
• Have strong behaviour management skills and use positive, evidence-based approaches.
• Be able to support students personal care needs, including toileting and feeding where required.
• Demonstrate creativity, patience, resilience and a great sense of humour; and
• Uphold the values and kaupapa of our kura.
