Job summary

Carrington Estate in Northland, New Zealand, is seeking an experienced Restaurant Manager to independently run the Winery Cafe/Restaurant and Vue Bar, and to oversee events from initial contact to operation. This hands-on role requires strong hospitality leadership, superb customer service, budgeting, staff recruitment and training, and close collaboration with the Head Chef on menus.

This position commences from October Labour Weekend 2026; availability on weekends, public holidays and evenings

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in hospitality/management roles.
  • Experience with fine dining, events, and wine-focused service is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage the Winery Cafe/Restaurant and Vue Bar.
  • Oversee events from initial contact to execution.
  • Lead service shifts on weekends and public holidays as required.
  • Plan budgets, manage stock and drive profitability.
  • Recruit, train, and motivate front-of-house staff; schedule rosters.

We are looking for an experienced Restaurant Manager to independently managing the Winery Cafe/ Restaurant , Vue Bar and undertake any events which may be arranged from initial contact and organization to operating. Ideally, you must have experience in management, business and/or hospitality.

This role is available from October Labour Weekend 2026 commencement.

The suitable candidate must be an experienced, professional individual who is passionate about food and wine, strong and confident with excellent administration, marketing, and communication skills, who has the drive and determination to succeed. Be able to work on weekends, Public Holidays and evenings when it requires when necessary and be resilient and conscientious.

You will have experience in restaurants, conferencing and wedding management and will understand how to provide outstanding customer service. We are seeking someone with energy and commitment, as well as great people and management skills.

This is a hands‑on position in which you will be required to undertake service shifts, during weekends and public holidays. You will be an integral part of the management team.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Long term commitment to this role.
  • A superb food, wine, and cocktail knowledge, excellent presentation & communication.
  • A passion for service delivery and the Hospitality Industry, knowledge and experience with Hospitality Management systems, extensive management experiences in fine dining Restaurants/Hotel/Resort, F & B Operations.
  • Able to work together with our Head Chef on developing the new/suitable menus.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, experience in managing and motivating staff, recruiting new staff, training and developing existing staff, coordinating staff scheduling and rota, able to engage & drive a strong FOH team culture.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, Excellent communication skills.
  • Planning and working to budgets, handling and recording stock level, maximizing profits and achieving sales targets. The ability to manage restaurant finances and to ensure the smooth running of all its operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with health regulations, liquor licensing and internal presentation policies.
  • Impeccable personal grooming, flexibility, and maturity in approach
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with exceptional organisational skills

Other Key Requirements

  1. A minimum of 5-year experience in a similar hospitality and management position.
  2. Ability to provide a high level of customer service, happy to go the extra mile when required to ensure customer satisfaction.
  3. Proven track records of working within a team as well as motivate as a leader.
  4. Excellent communication skills are vital in this role.
