Job summary

Green by Nature is seeking a multiskilled Response Operator to support our Masterton team. The role is hands-on, outdoors-focused, and involves multiple workstreams from mowing and edging to general grounds maintenance.

You will work across response and repairs, supporting the team in diverse tasks and equipment handling, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and adaptability to changing daily needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in gardening or outdoor maintenance preferred.
• Full, clean driver license required; manual vehicle experience desirable.
• Willingness to learn and operate equipment across tasks.

Responsibilities

• Gardening and grounds maintenance across parks, reserves and public spaces.
• Mower operations across various sites and open spaces.
• Support response and repairs work, reactive maintenance for council assets.
• Assist team during busy periods and staff leave to ensure operations continue smoothly.

About the role:

This position is cross-functional, supporting the team across response and repairs, mowing, edging trimming and more. You’ll work across multiple workstreams, gaining exposure to a wide range of tasks and equipment.

Your work will include:

• Gardening and horticulture duties, including planting, pruning, and general grounds maintenance
• Mower operations across parks, reserves, and open spaces
• Supporting response and repairs work, including reactive maintenance tasks for council assets such as public bathrooms, seats and benches, bollards, boardwalks and more!
• Assisting across the wider team during busy periods and annual leave as required

No two days will look the same, and teamwork will be key to success in this role.

What we’re looking for:

• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to work across different duties
• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing, or outdoor maintenance (preferred but not essential)
• Comfort operating equipment or a willingness to learn
• Strong work ethic and pride in delivering quality outcomes for the community
• A full, clean driver licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and tow trailers being highly desirable
