Job summary

Green by Nature is seeking a multiskilled Response Operator to join our Masterton team. This hands‑on role keeps public spaces safe, tidy and well maintained, with diverse outdoor duties and the opportunity to support across response and repairs.

You will work across gardening, mowing, and maintenance tasks, gaining exposure to a wide range of equipment and workflows. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a valid driver licence are important.

Qualifications

• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing, or outdoor maintenance is preferred.
• Comfort operating equipment or willingness to learn.
• Full, clean driver licence and ability to tow trailers is highly desirable.

Job description

At Green by Nature, we look after the spaces that help our communities thrive. Our Masterton team plays a vital role in keeping local parks, reserves, and public areas safe, tidy, and well maintained and we’re now looking for a multiskilled Response Operator to join the team!

This is a hands‑on, varied role ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is happy to roll up their sleeves wherever support is needed.

About the role:

This position is cross‑functional, supporting the team across response and repairs, mowing, edging trimming and more. You’ll work across multiple workstreams, gaining exposure to a wide range of tasks and equipment.

Your work will include:

• Gardening and horticulture duties, including planting, pruning, and general grounds maintenance
• Mower operations across parks, reserves, and open spaces
• Supporting response and repairs work, including reactive maintenance tasks for council assets such as public bathrooms, seats and benches, bollards, boardwalks and more!
• Assisting across the wider team during busy periods and annual leave as required

No two days will look the same, and teamwork will be key to success in this role.

What we’re looking for:

• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to work across different duties
• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing, or outdoor maintenance (preferred but not essential)
• Comfort operating equipment or a willingness to learn
• Strong work ethic and pride in delivering quality outcomes for the community
• A full, clean driver licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and tow trailers being highly desirable
