Job summary

Ruminant BioTech is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to join its Analytical Development & Laboratory team in Auckland, NZ. The role focuses on product release, stability testing, and method development within a fast-paced biotech setting, contributing to methane-reduction solutions for ruminant livestock.

You will perform GC-FID/GC-MS analyses, maintain rigorous documentation, and support both laboratory operations and transfer activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent.
• At least two years of practical laboratory experience in analytical settings.
• Experience with analytical testing and method development/validation/verification/transfer.

Responsibilities

• Conduct product release, stability, and IP-related testing using GC-FID/GC-MS.
• Support analytical method development, validation, verification and transfer activities.
• Support manufacturing benchtop prototypes and perform QC testing as required.
• Plan, execute, analyse and document experiments with data integrity and traceability.
• Prepare, review and maintain SOPs, test methods, protocols and reports.
• Support data review, trend analysis and communication of results to stakeholders.
• Identify and implement laboratory process improvements and improve workflows.

We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Analyst to join our Analytical Development & Laboratory team in Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of innovative products while building broad capability across analytical skills, technical documentation, prototype manufacture, and laboratory operations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct product release, stability, and IP-related testing using analytical techniques such as GC-FID and GC-MS.
• Support analytical method development, validation, verification, and technical transfer activities.
• Support manufacturing benchtop prototypes and perform corresponding quality control testing as per project requirement.
• Plan, execute, analyse, and document experiments accurately, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and high-quality technical records.
• Prepare, review, and maintain laboratory documentation, including SOPs, test methods, study protocols and report, worksheets, risk assessments, deviation and investigation records.
• Support data review, trending, reporting, and communication of test results to relevant project stakeholders.
• Identify and implement laboratory process improvements, including H&S related improvement, improvements to workflows, documentation systems, testing practices, and laboratory efficiency.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, consumables, and records in an organised and inspection-ready state.

About you

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent qualification, in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• At least two years of practical laboratory experience in an analytical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, chemical, or related regulated environment.
• Demonstrated experience in analytical testing, preferably including method development, validation, verification, troubleshooting, or transfer activities.
• Hands‑on experience with stability and release testing is highly desirable.
• Experience using chromatographic instrumentation, particularly GC-FID and/or GC-MS, is an advantage.
• Proven ability to prepare clear, accurate, and compliant laboratory documentation, including SOPs, test methods, protocols, raw‑data records, deviations, risk assessments, and technical or study reports.
• Strong understanding of data integrity, good documentation practices, and accurate record keeping.
• Strong prioritisation, collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills suited to a fast‑paced, early‑stage biotech environment.
• Detail‑oriented, proactive, reliable, and solution‑focused mindset.
