Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an ambitious Renewable Energy Project Developer to drive growth in their clean energy portfolio based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. The role focuses on identifying new project opportunities, feasibility studies, securing land rights and navigating regulatory landscapes to bring solar, wind, and hydro projects to fruition.

You will help expand sustainable energy generation within South Africa’s Eastern Cape and beyond.

Qualifications

• 7 years minimum experience in project development within renewable energy
• Proven track record of developing and financing renewable energy projects
• Strong understanding of energy policy and PPAs
• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate potential sites for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hydro)
• Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies including resource assessment and grid connection analysis
• Negotiate and secure land leases, permits and other necessary agreements
• Develop and manage project proformas, financial models and investment cases
• Engage with stakeholders including landowners, government agencies, utilities and communities
• Manage the project development pipeline from origination through to financial close and construction handover

About the Role

Our client is seeking an ambitious Renewable Energy Project Developer to drive the growth of their clean energy portfolio, based in Queenstown . This role involves identifying new project opportunities, conducting feasibility studies, securing land rights, and navigating the regulatory landscape to bring renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind farms, to fruition. You will play a key role in expanding sustainable energy generation within the Eastern Cape and beyond. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the energy market, excellent negotiation skills, and a passion for sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate potential sites for renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hydro.
• Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, including resource assessment, grid connection analysis, and economic viability.
• Negotiate and secure land leases, permits, and other necessary agreements for project development.
• Develop and manage project proformas, financial models, and investment cases.
• Engage with stakeholders, including landowners, government agencies, utilities, and community groups.
• Manage the project development pipeline from origination through to financial close and construction handover.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in project development, specifically within the renewable energy sector.
• Proven track record of successfully developing and financing renewable energy projects.
• Strong understanding of energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and power purchase agreements (PPAs).
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working within the South African energy market is highly advantageous.
