Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Remote Sensing Data Analyst for a fully remote role in South Africa, focusing on processing, analyzing, and interpreting complex remote sensing data to improve aviation safety, security, and infrastructure monitoring.

The ideal candidate holds a Master's/PhD in a related field, has 5+ years of hands-on RS data analysis experience, and is proficient with ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, QGIS, and Python or R.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in remote sensing data analysis.
• Proficiency with GIS/remote sensing software: ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, QGIS.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R for data analysis.
• Experience with optical, radar, and LiDAR data types.
• Familiarity with aviation surveillance concepts is a plus.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Process and analyze large remote sensing datasets from satellite, drone, and aerial imagery.
• Use GIS/RS tools to extract, classify, and interpret aviation-relevant spatial data.
• Develop algorithms for feature extraction, change detection, and pattern recognition.
• Create maps, reports, and visualizations for stakeholders.
• R&D into new RS techniques for aviation surveillance.
• Collaborate with RS specialists, data scientists, and aviation experts.
• Ensure data quality, accuracy, and lifecycle integrity.
• Stay updated on RS tech and analytical methods.
