Job summary

Alignerr is seeking PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test AI models and ensure they respect fundamental physical principles. The role focuses on designing advanced physics problems, authoring gold-standard solutions, and auditing AI reasoning for consistency with core laws of physics.

This fully remote hourly contract welcomes researchers and academics, with flexible hours (10–40 per week) and no prior AI experience required.

Qualifications

• PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field.
• Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical reasoning in clear, structured prose.
• Uncompromising precision with units, scientific notation, dimensional analysis, and proof structure.
• Self-directed and reliable when working independently on technical tasks.
• No prior AI or machine learning experience required.

Responsibilities

• Design Advanced Physics Problems — Craft complex, open-ended problems at PhD qualifying exam level with multi-step reasoning and rigorous derivations across quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics.
• Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write definitive, step-by-step solutions with precise physical constants and clear logical flow.
• Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI simulations and proofs for physical consistency and identify hallucinated physics.
• Refine Model Behaviour — Provide expert feedback to improve AI reasoning around boundary conditions and conservation laws.
