Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waikato Hospital seeks an experienced ICU nurse to join our 28-bed Critical Care Department (HDU and ICU). After a 6-week orientation, you will deliver high-quality nursing care in a tertiary level ICU, supporting a regional air retrieval service and a busy multidisciplinary team.

The role requires NZNC registration with APC, and at least 2 years post-registration acute care experience; Intensive Care qualification is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Current NZNC registration and Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration acute care experience.
  • Intensive Care qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Good level of computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to ICU patients in a tertiary level unit.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic ICU environment.
  • Participate in the in-house Education programme and orientation.
  • Contribute to patient care across medical, surgical, neurosurgical, trauma and cardio-thoracic cases.
  • Support air retrieval services and regional referral network.

About the Role You will have a desire to provide excellent nursing care to our patients in a tertiary level Intensive Care Unit. You may have intensive care experience or have at least 2 years acute nursing experience in a hospital environment. Click here to view the position description. About the Team The Critical Care Department comprises of a 28 bedded unit. 12 beds in HDU and 16 beds in ICU. We are a tertiary level Intensive Care and provide care for patients within the Te Manawa Taki region. The unit provides an excellent opportunity to work in a progressive environment with the latest technology. We are at the centre of a regional referral network across the middle of the North Island. Our patient groups include medical, surgical, neurosurgical, trauma, cardio thoracic surgery and paediatrics. We also run an air retrieval service for the Te Manawa Taki. The nursing, medical teams and allied health teams are supportive, dynamic and flexible, working together to provide quality care to all patients within the Midland region. About Hamilton Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts.
