About the Role

Waikato Hospitals Intensive Care Unit is undergoing significant expansion this year, and we have exciting opportunities for single- or dual-trained Intensivists to join our evolving service. This is a dynamic time to contribute to a growing department with a strong focus on clinical excellence, education, and innovation.

In addition to your clinical role, youll have opportunities to pursue academic and research interests, and to support the training and development of both junior and senior medical staff.

  • Average call duties and availability allowance of approximately 4555% of base salary

  • 6 weeks annual leave plus 2 weeks CME leave

About our Critical Care Department

The Critical Care Department at Waikato Hospital is the tertiary provider for Intensive Care to the Midland region of New Zealand.

As a tertiary referral centre, our 16-bed state-of-the-art ICU provides all major tertiary services:

  • Major trauma
  • Cardiac surgery (second largest in NZ)
  • Regional burns
  • Busy general and paediatric intensive care

We manage around 1,500 ICU patients and nearly 3,000 HDU patients annually and operate an air and road retrieval service for both critical care and a large contingency of cardiac patients.

Clinicians joining our team will have opportunities to pursue academic and research interests, and to contribute to the training of both junior and senior medical staff.

Subspecialty interestsincluding cardiac, paediatrics, and academiaare supported and welcomed.

The unit is credentialed by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) atC24 level.

About You

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

  • Hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the scope of practice of Intensive Care Medicine and must be of good standing.
