Job description

Own the region. Lead the team. Drive growth.

An established and growing civil construction business is looking for an experienced Regional Manager to take full ownership of its Waikato and upper North Island Operations.

This is a genuine Senior Leadership position where you'll be responsible for the region as an integrated business, combining operational leadership, financial performance, client relationships and future growth.

You'll lead a regional team supported by four Contract Managers based across Auckland, Hamilton and Taupo.

The business currently has a strong presence in the energy infrastructure sector with plans to expand further across the civil infrastructure market.

The Role:

Reporting to the General Manager, you'll take end-to-end responsibility for the performance and future direction of the region.

Your three core accountabilities will be:

Deliver the regional financial plan
Own the regional P&L. Be accountable for regional revenue, gross margin, overhead control, earnings, cashflow etc.

Grow and protect the client base
Build strong relationships with key clients, understand the market, develop the regional business development strategy and convert a healthy pipeline of profitable work.

Deliver the project portfolio
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, to scope, adhering to quality and commercial expectations, with risks identified and managed proactively.

You'll also be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing four Contract Managers and the wider regional team.
  • Setting the regional operating plan and allocating people, plant and resources.
  • Providing senior oversight across the project portfolio from tender through to completion.
  • Ensuring effective commercial and project governance.
  • Building leadership capability, succession and accountability within the region.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Ensuring regional compliance across health & safety, environmental, quality, contractual and financial requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to broaden the business into new sectors and markets.
About You

This role would suit an established Branch or Regional Manager, but we're also open to a high‑calibre Senior Project Manager who is ready to step into a broader business leadership role.

The critical requirement is strong operational experience combined with the commercial awareness to understand what drives a successful business.

You'll ideally have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in civil engineering, construction management, Project Management, business, commerce or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within the civil construction industry - ideally across energy infrastructure, bulk earthworks and/or water infrastructure.
  • A proven track record leading major projects, teams and operational functions.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery from mobilisation through to commercial close-out.
  • Experience with budgets, forecasting, project financials and business performance.
  • The ability to understand and influence P&L performance.
  • Strong client relationship and business development capability.
  • Experience leading and developing senior project and construction personnel.
  • A sound understanding of health, safety, quality and environmental obligations.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Down-to-earth and approachable.
  • A strong people leader.
  • Positive, practical and solutions-focused.
  • Comfortable making strong decisions and taking ownership.
  • Operationally and commercially astute and ambitious.
  • Collaborative rather than overly corporate.

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a significant regional business and have a direct influence on its performance, people, clients and future growth.

Remuneration:

This is a senior appointment, and the salary and overall package will reflect the level of experience, expertise and leadership capability you bring to the organisation.

All conversations will be treated confidentially.
