Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. Upper Hutt, New Zealand invites applications for a QC Laboratory Technician in an 18-month fixed-term role based on site at Upper Hutt, Wellington. You will support assay performance, manage workload, and help ensure smooth operations for timely product release.

You will work in a collaborative, quality-focused environment reporting to the QC Manager and contributing to continuous improvement and compliant product release.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a QC, laboratory or quality-focused manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of SOPs, GLP and Good Documentation Practice.
• Ability to plan and coordinate your workload to meet schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
• Ability to investigate issues, identify faults and support corrective actions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to complete training and support broader team initiatives.
• Ability to maintain high standards of housekeeping and equipment care.

Responsibilities

• QC Laboratory Operations: perform, document and coordinate activities within the QC Laboratory area.
• Monitor assay performance and support timely release of intermediate and final products.
• Ensure adequate stocks of reagents, test materials and equipment.
• Plan, conduct, report and interpret routine laboratory assays per SOPs.
• Documentation and Data Integrity: document tasks, data and observations per GDP.
• Peer review the work of team members on procedures you are trained in.
• Develop and maintain documentation per company quality standards.
• Assist with SOP and worksheet development and updates.
• Housekeeping and Equipment Maintenance: perform housekeeping per SOPs and GLP; maintain calibration and validation of equipment.

You will support assay performance, manage your workload effectively and help ensure smooth laboratory operations to meet schedules for release of intermediate and final products.

What You Will Do

• QC Laboratory Operations
• Perform, document and coordinate activities within the assigned QC Laboratory area
• Monitor assay performance and support the timely release of intermediate and final products
• Ensure adequate stocks of reagents, test materials and equipment are available to perform testing on time
• Plan, conduct, report and interpret routine laboratory assays in accordance with SOPs
• Documentation and Data Integrity
• Accurately document all tasks, test data and observations in test records, worksheets and logbooks in accordance with Good Documentation Practice (GDP)
• Peer review the work of team members on procedures you are fully trained in
• Develop and maintain documentation in line with company and quality standards
• Assist with SOP and worksheet development and updates
• Housekeeping and Equipment Maintenance
• Perform housekeeping tasks in accordance with SOPs and GLP
• Complete assigned housekeeping inspections
• Maintain laboratory equipment in a fully operational state of calibration and validation
• Perform routine calibrations as required
• Refer to, understand and follow applicable Global Quality Policies
• Event Management and Continuous Improvement
• Monitor assay outcomes for unusual occurrences and review trends
• Investigate and report events
• Notify the supervisor of potential failures, record faults and rectify common faults independently
• Implement assigned CAPAs arising from investigations
• Perform routine test method or equipment validations under direction
• Author or technically review SOPs for procedures you are fully trained in
• Team Contribution and Reporting
• Complete training in assigned areas and tasks
• Support team initiatives and collaborate with other team members
• Follow global and local procedures for reporting Events, Adverse Events and Product Quality Complaints within required timelines

What You Must Have

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience
• Experience working in a QC, laboratory or quality-focused manufacturing environment
• Strong understanding of SOPs, GLP and Good Documentation Practice
• Ability to plan and coordinate your workload to meet schedules
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
