About the Role

Our client is looking for a strategic and politically astute Public Affairs Advisor to join their team, focusing on stakeholder engagement and government relations in the Eastern Cape region, specifically in Queenstown. You will be responsible for monitoring the political and regulatory landscape, advising senior leadership, and building strong relationships with government officials, community leaders, and industry associations. This role requires a deep understanding of public policy and a proven ability to influence stakeholders and shape public opinion, contributing to the company's strategic objectives within a complex socio-political environment. You will operate in a hybrid capacity, blending remote work with essential in-person engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze government policies, legislation, and regulatory changes affecting the company's operations.
• Develop and implement strategies to effectively engage with government officials, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with key individuals and organizations in the public sector and community.
• Advise senior management on public affairs issues, providing strategic recommendations and risk assessments.
• Represent the company in relevant industry associations, forums, and public consultations.
• Draft position papers, policy briefs, and advocacy materials.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, International Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, policy analysis, or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge of the political and regulatory environment in South Africa , particularly the Eastern Cape .
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage complex relationships across diverse groups.
