Job description

About Frequency:

Frequency is a New Zealand-owned and operated specialist project advisory consultancy that has been optimising Kiwi infrastructure for over a decade. At Frequency, we work in close partnership with every client, providing access to experienced, senior people from day one. Our expertise spans multiple sectors including Health, Education, Transport, Airports, Ports, and Water Infrastructure. We believe its our responsibility to share real-world knowledge, leaving our clients better equipped to navigate New Zealand's complex project pathways.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Project Manager with 5+ years of experience to join our growing Industrial Service Line in Auckland. This role is ideal for someone with a technical background and hands-on experience delivering building services projects in live operational environments such as hospitals, industrial plants, or manufacturing facilities.

You’ll be supporting the successful delivery of technically complex projects, ensuring that services remain live during upgrades, and working alongside experienced consultants and clients to deliver outcomes that make a real impact.

While this position is based in Auckland, we have a growing pipeline of work across New Zealand and encourage candidates to explore our other opportunities if they’re interested in different locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of building services projects in critical brownfield environments such as hospitals and industrial facilities.

  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and controls (BMS) systems upgrades.

  • Assist with disruption and outage planning, minimising downtime for essential services.

  • Work with clients, consultants, and contractors to manage progress and expectations.

  • Participate in the procurement of design and construction teams, and administer contracts through delivery.

  • Ensure project documentation, risk management, and reporting are accurate and timely.

  • Uphold a strong health & safety culture throughout the project lifecycle.

About You:

  • 5+ years of experience in project delivery, ideally with exposure to live building services upgrades.

  • Technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred, or solid experience from the contractor side.

  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical and controls (BMS) systems, and the risks associated with service outages.

  • Experience in procurement and contract administration.

  • Experience working in healthcare environments is a strong advantage, but not essential.

  • Great communication and coordination skills, with a practical, solutions-focused approach.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

We’re also intentional about development at Frequency. You’ll be supported through structured pathways that build both delivery capability and consulting confidence, with clear expectations at each stage and practical support to help you progress. That includes regular coaching and mentoring from senior leaders, opportunities to work alongside some of New Zealand’s most experienced project professionals, and exposure to technically complex projects that will continue to grow your expertise.

What you’ll get:

  • 5 weeks of annual leave

  • 4.5% employer KiwiSaver contribution

  • Enhanced parental leave

  • Wellbeing benefit and EAP support for you and your whānau

  • Learning and development support (forums, training budgets, professional memberships)

  • Regular team connection moments and events
