Job summary

Stellar Recruitment is seeking a Project Manager in Wellington to lead complex mechanical engineering, fabrication, installation and construction projects. You will report to the Regional Manager and drive safe, profitable delivery across the lower North Island.

The ideal candidate holds a Mechanical Engineering qualification, 5+ years PM experience in engineering, strong commercial/contract management, and proven leadership with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Mechanical, industrial, fabrication, maintenance or construction project management experience.
• Minimum 5 years' PM experience in an engineering environment.
• Strong commercial and contract management skills.
• Commitment to health, safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Managing mechanical engineering, fabrication, maintenance, and construction projects
• Developing project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and delivery strategies
• Leading multidisciplinary project teams, including site personnel, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Monitoring project performance, cost control, forecasting, and risk management
• Managing client relationships and stakeholder expectations
• Administering contracts, variations, and commercial outcomes
• Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification
• Providing regular project reporting to senior leadership

Project Manager

Lead Complex Mechanical Engineering Projects Across Wellington

Our client is a leading engineering and construction company with operations across New Zealand and Australia. They design, construction, maintenance, fabrication, mechanical services, industrial coatings, and scaffolding solutions to clients across a range of industrial sectors.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team in Wellington. Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will lead the successful delivery of mechanical engineering, fabrication, installation, and construction projects across the lower North Island.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded project professional who can combine technical expertise with strong commercial and leadership capability.

About the Role

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing projects from tender handover through to completion, ensuring safe, profitable, and high-quality delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing mechanical engineering, fabrication, maintenance, and construction projects
• Developing project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and delivery strategies
• Leading multidisciplinary project teams, including site personnel, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

• A Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent trade-based engineering background
• Proven experience delivering mechanical, industrial, fabrication, maintenance, or construction projects
• Minimum 5 years' project management experience in an engineering environment
• Strong commercial and contract management skills
• Experience managing shutdowns, capital projects, plant upgrades, or industrial installations
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
• Strong problem-solving and organisational abilities
• A commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand
