About the role

Our client is a large government agency looking for a project manager to support the delivery of process and project management activities across a large international development programme. The role might suit junior project managers, project / programme coordinators or analysts looking to get involved in the international development space.

The role involves working as part of a busy team to provide process and administrative support across contract, procurement, budget / finance and supplier management activities for specific projects as part of a wider programme of work. Candidates also need to have strong business rather than IT backgrounds and any exposure to policy or similar environments would be beneficial. Strong critical analysis and / or writing skills are also essential. Any exposure to international or pacific development spaces is also a bonus but not essential.

This is an hourly rate contract opportunity starting in October / November 2026 for 12-months. The role will be Wellington based and ideally full time but there might be some flexibility for the right candidate.

Key skills and experience required
  • Strong Project Management or coordination experience in the public sector
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver projects in difficult environments including the management of more than one project simultaneously
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills are essential as the roles will be working across multiple teams internally and externally
  • Experience in contract and procurement management and management of external suppliers
  • Budget and financial management experience
  • Comfortable being hands on in terms of processes and administrative management of projects
  • Business or policy project exposure is ideal but not essential
  • Experience working in an international context, and an understanding of development issues is useful but not essential
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Please note that candidates need to be NZ citizens or permanent residents, have the right to work in NZ and be willing to go through the required security clearances to be considered.
