Job summary

Bay of Plenty Regional Council – Whakatāne, North Island invites applications for an Engineering Team Leader to guide our project engineering and survey team, delivering coordinated outcomes for the community and environment across river schemes, drainage, coastal and soil conservation work.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will lead project management activities, oversee external contractors, produce modelling reports, and act as Duty Flood Monitoring Lead on a rostered rotation while

Qualifications

  • A recognised qualification in civil or environmental engineering (BE, NZCE, NZ Diploma) or equivalent discipline or body of knowledge.
  • A minimum of ten years professional engineering experience including river, drainage and civil engineering works.
  • A minimum of five years' experience supervising staff, contractors and consultants.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience managing engineering and modelling projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leading project management activities and budgets for the engineering team.
  • Monitoring external contractors and contract work.
  • Producing engineering modelling reports and analysis as required.
  • Duty Flood Monitoring Lead on a rostered rotation.

We are seeking an Engineering Team Leader to provide strong programme leadership and support our project engineering and survey team to deliver consistent, well-coordinated outcomes for the community and environment in the Bay of Plenty.


This role is responsible for the undertaking of professional engineering design and investigations for river schemes, drainage, coastal and soil conservation activities. It also includes providing advanced engineering advice and technical expertise to Council groups, outside organisations and the community for regional plans, strategies, policy development and processing of resource consents.


Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will also be responsible for:


  • Leading project management activities and budgets for the engineering team
  • Monitoring external contractors and contract work
  • Producing engineering modelling reports and analysis as required
  • Duty Flood Monitoring Lead on a rostered rotation

Along with a passion for your work, strong contract, and project management, you will have:


  • A recognised qualification in civil or environmental engineering (BE, NZCE, NZ Diploma) or equivalent discipline or body of knowledge
  • A minimum of ten years professional engineering experience including river, drainage and civil engineering works
  • A minimum of five years' experience supervising staff, contractors and consultants
