Job summary

RCR Infrastructure is seeking a Project Design Engineer to lead the design, estimation, and technical delivery of electrical projects across telecommunications and critical infrastructure in New Zealand. You will collaborate with customers, suppliers, and operations to develop practical, compliant solutions.

You will design AC/DC power systems, battery and HVAC infrastructure, and generators, while preparing estimates and documentation for Chorus projects.

Qualifications

• NZ recognised electrical trade qualification is required.
• Experience designing or working with telecommunications or critical infrastructure is essential.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

Project Design Engineer

Preferred Location: Auckland or Wellington | Open to Other RCR Locations Across New Zealand

At RCR Infrastructure, we deliver essential infrastructure services that keep New Zealand businesses and communities connected. We're looking for an experienced Project Design Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering telecommunications and critical power infrastructure projects nationwide.

While our preference is for the successful candidate to be based in Auckland or Wellington, we are open to considering candidates based at other RCR Infrastructure locations across New Zealand. Travel may be required from time to time.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your electrical expertise with project delivery while working on infrastructure that supports some of New Zealand's most critical networks.

About the Role

Reporting to the Contract Manager (Key Accounts), you will be responsible for the design, estimation, and technical delivery of electrical projects across telecommunications and critical infrastructure environments. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, and operational teams to develop practical, compliant, and cost-effective solutions. The role focuses on delivering electrical and HVAC project designs and estimates for Chorus telecommunications infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Designing AC and DC power systems, battery systems, HVAC infrastructure, and generators.
• Preparing project estimates and technical documentation.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements.
• Providing technical support and problem-solving expertise throughout project delivery.
• Ensuring designs meet legislative, customer, and industry standards.
• Building strong relationships with customers and project stakeholders.

About You

You are a technically capable electrical professional who enjoys finding practical solutions and working collaboratively to deliver quality outcomes.

You Will Bring:

• A New Zealand recognised Electrical Trade Qualification.
• A current New Zealand Electrical Practising Licence (EWRB).
• Experience designing or working with telecommunications, DC power, battery systems, generators, UPS systems, or critical infrastructure.
• The ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Experience preparing estimates, scopes of work, or technical proposals.
• Strong understanding of electrical compliance and industry standards.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers and stakeholders.
• Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
• A Full New Zealand Driver Licence.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working on Chorus or telecommunications infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of DC power systems, battery systems, generators, HVAC, and critical infrastructure environments.
• Project management and estimation experience.
• Simpro experience.
