Job summary

HEB Construction in Christchurch is seeking a Project Controls Lead to join our maintenance team, supporting road contracts across Canterbury.

You’ll turn contract and financial data into practical decisions, lead forecasting, budgeting, cost control and commercial support, and work closely with the Contract Manager and delivery teams to improve performance.

Qualifications

• Experience in project controls, contract finance, commercial, accounting or operational support roles.
• Strong forecasting, budgeting and cost-control capability.
• Excellent Excel and data analysis skills.
• Experience preparing reports, reconciliations and performance insights.
• The ability to explain financial and project information in a clear and practical way.
• A collaborative approach and confidence working alongside operational teams.
• Experience in civil construction, infrastructure, maintenance or contracting environments would be a real advantage.

HEB Construction is looking for a Project Controls Lead to join our Christchurch Maintenance team, supporting the contracts that help keep Christchurch and North Canterbury's roading network operating every day.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll work closely with operational teams, helping turn detailed contract and financial information into practical decisions. You'll provide project controls, forecasting, cost management and commercial support that helps our contracts perform at their best, while working directly alongside the Contract Manager and delivery teams.

The role

No two days are quite the same. You'll be involved in:

• Managing monthly contract reporting, forecasting and budgeting processes
• Monitoring job performance, costs, revenue and contract margins
• Supporting client claims, variations and revenue recovery activities
• Providing practical project controls support to operational teams
• Identifying risks, trends and opportunities before they become issues
• Working with supervisors, engineers and managers to improve cost control and financial performance
• Supporting audits, reconciliations and commercial reviews
• Developing reporting tools, dashboards and process improvements that help the business make informed decisions

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the operation rather than sitting behind a spreadsheet all day. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple areas of the business, build strong relationships and make a real impact on project outcomes and contract performance.
