Job summary

Coromandel District Council is seeking a senior leader to shape and deliver its capital investment programme. You will lead the Project Delivery team, providing strategic oversight and practical delivery leadership across Council, elected members, iwi and partners.

You will drive governance, performance reporting and risk management to ensure long-term value for the district. Flexible working arrangements and relocation support may be available.

• Ability to forecast, report to senior governance bodies and manage risk.

Job description

This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape how Council plans, governs and delivers its capital investment programme. You will lead the Project Delivery team and provide the leadership, systems and oversight needed to turn Council priorities into well-planned, deliverable programmes and projects.

Working across Council and with elected members, local iwi, communities, funding partners, consultants and contractors, you will bring people together around shared outcomes. You will combine strategic oversight with practical delivery leadership, ensuring risks are identified early, decisions are well informed and investment delivers lasting value for the district.

You will lead

• A high-performing Project Delivery team
• Planning, prioritisation, forecasting and performance oversight of Council's capital portfolio
• Clear, decision-ready reporting for Council, committees, Community Boards and senior leaders
• Governance of assigned programmes and projects
• Commercially sound procurement, contract management and oversight of consultants and contractors

What you will bring

• Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to build capability and a positive, collaborative team culture
• A tertiary qualification in engineering, project management or a related field
• Experience in capital portfolio planning, governance, financial oversight, performance monitoring and senior-level reporting
• Strategic judgement and political acumen, with the confidence to navigate competing priorities and provide clear, impartial advice
• Strong commercial, procurement and contract management capability, with knowledge of NZS 3910, NZS 3915 and NZS 3916 highly desirable
• Working knowledge of legislation relevant to local government and infrastructure delivery
