Imagine leading the coordination, delivery and growth of Turning the Page in prisons across New Zealand, recording parents reading picture books for their children, helping those stories make their way home, and developing the systems and volunteer network needed to reach more families.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a passionate and genuine programme coordinator to join our small but mighty team. You'll need to be highly organised, confident and unflappable, with the ability to manage the practical delivery and contribute to the development of Turning the Page.

This part-time role is approximately 20-25 hours per week, with the exact hours open to discussion. It is initially fixed-term for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent or being extended, subject to funding.

You'll work remotely, in prisons and with the Momentum team at our West Auckland office.

What the role may include and what a typical day may look like for you

As the Programme Coordinator for Turning the Page, you will:

Coordinate and deliver Turning the Page

• Communicate with prison staff to coordinate participant applications and recording days.
• Contact participants' partners or caregivers and manage the consent process.
• Select suitable picture books and travel to prisons to record parents reading stories and personal messages for their children.
• Support participants with varying levels of literacy to feel comfortable and confident during their recordings.
• Edit the recordings and arrange for the completed recordings and books to be sent to participants' children and caregivers.
• Maintain accurate programme records and collect feedback from participants and caregivers to help demonstrate the programme's impact.

Support the operation and growth of the programme

• Build and maintain relationships with prison staff, programme partners and sponsors.
• Promote Turning the Page through social media and community networks to encourage donations of suitable picture books.
• Help introduce Turning the Page into prisons where it is not yet available.
• Help develop and test software for securely sharing recordings and managing donated books.
• Assess where local recording volunteers could support delivery, then recruit, train and manage suitable volunteers.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

• Strong administration, organisation and time-management skills, with excellent attention to detail and confidence using digital systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability and willingness to learn audio-recording and editing software.
• A friendly, patient and non-judgemental approach.
• The confidence to work independently and take practical action when issues arise.
• A full New Zealand driver licence, reliable transport, the ability to travel nationally, and the ability to meet prison access and vetting requirements.

What is Momentum and Turning the Page?

Momentum Charitable Trust supports people in prison through practical life and financial skills programmes and Turning the Page, which connects parents in prison with their children through recorded bedtime stories.

Parents select and record picture books for their children, and the books and recordings are then sent home. This allows children to hear their mum or dad reading to them while they are apart, helping strengthen their connection and giving parents further motivation to make positive changes.
