Job summary

Aliaxis is seeking a Production Tooling Engineer for our Dynex team in Avondale. You will maintain and repair production tooling, ensure readiness, minimise downtime, and support safe, efficient manufacturing outcomes.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified in machining, fitting and turning or toolmaking with post-apprenticeship experience.
• CMMS experience, ideally MEX, for maintenance records.
• Proven milling and turning operations experience is essential.
• CNC wire eroders experience is advantageous but not required.
• Strong problem-solving ability; works well independently and in teams.
• Safety-first approach with good understanding of WH&S.
• Detail-oriented with ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean, and prepare tooling according to production schedules to minimise downtime.
• Perform tooling repairs and maintenance using manual machining equipment (surface grinders, etc.).
• Monitor daily production and tooling needs to ensure availability and performance.
• Keep a clean, safe toolroom and accurately track tooling components.
• Record maintenance activities, repair notes, and downtime in DB View and MEX systems.
• Respond promptly to tooling/equipment breakdowns and perform effective repairs.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
• Undertake other duties as directed by the Department Leader or Management.

About the role

Join our Dynex team in Avondale as a Production Tooling Engineer, where you'll play a key role in supporting our Extrusions and Materials Manufacturing operations. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing production tooling, ensuring tooling readiness, minimising downtime, and contributing to safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing outcomes.

What will you do?

• Inspect, clean, and prepare tooling in line with production schedules to ensure uninterrupted operations and minimise downtime.

• Perform tooling repairs and maintenance using manual machining equipment, including surface grinders.

• Monitor daily production and tooling maintenance requirements to ensure tooling availability and optimal performance.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised toolroom, while accurately tracking all incoming and outgoing tooling components.

• Review production schedules and record maintenance activities, repair notes, and downtime data using DB View and MEX systems.

• Respond promptly to tooling and equipment breakdowns, carrying out effective repairs to minimise production disruptions.

• Work closely with production and maintenance teams to support operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Undertake other duties as directed by the Department Leader or Management Team.

About you

• Trade qualified in Machining, Fitting & Turning, Toolmaking, or a related discipline, with at least 5 years' post-apprenticeship experience.

• Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably MEX.

• Proven experience in milling and turning operations is essential.

• Experience with CNC wire eroders would be advantageous but is not essential.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

• Reliable, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.

• Sound understanding of machining principles, tooling, materials, tolerances, and precision engineering practices.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands.

• Good understanding of Workplace Health & Safety requirements, with a practical, safety-first approach to all work activities.
