Job summary

Folium Organics, based in Leeston, Canterbury, seeks a Production Supervisor to lead a hands-on production team across feeding from paddock to warehouse. You’ll supervise staff, coordinate daily activities, and work on drying, milling and blending lines, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

The role may require flexible hours with the operation running 24/7 at times, and offers an hourly rate with a company vehicle. Experience in agriculture or food processing is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or leading people in a production/manufacturing environment.
• Strong practical, hands-on approach and ability to work with the team.
• Good mechanical aptitude and confidence around plant equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong organisation and ability to coordinate priorities and staff safety.

From the heart of the Canterbury Plains, we grow and process certified organic barley grass, wheatgrass and other leaf crops, using one of New Zealand’s most sophisticated on‑farm hot air‑drying operations. Our products ultimately make their way into nutraceutical and wholefood markets around the world.

We’re looking for a Production Supervisor to join our Leeston‑based operation.

This is definitely not an office‑bound role. We need someone who enjoys being out amongst the action — leading people, operating machinery, solving problems and making sure production keeps moving.

One day you might be coordinating a harvest and the next working alongside the team on the production line, troubleshooting machinery or helping load a container. If you like variety, practical problem‑solving and getting stuck in, this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll help coordinate the day‑to‑day production operation from paddock through to warehouse, including harvesting, drying, milling, blending and freight.

You’ll:

Supervise and coordinate the production team, including seasonal staff

Plan daily and weekly production activities and ensure the team knows what needs to be achieved

Work alongside the team and lead from the front

Operate and monitor drying, milling and blending equipment

Help troubleshoot plant and machinery issues and minimise downtime

Coordinate preventative maintenance activities

Prepare weekly rosters based on production requirements

Ensure staff are properly trained, inducted and working safely

Monitor production targets, quality requirements and stock

Maintain a strong focus on health and safety across day‑to‑day operations

Keep the General Manager informed of production issues, progress and priorities

Work collaboratively with growers, warehouse and administration teams.

Our operation can run 24/7 at times, particularly around harvest and peak production periods, so some flexibility around hours will be important.

What You’ll Bring

We’re more interested in finding someone with the right practical capability and attitude than someone who ticks every box on paper.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

Experience supervising or leading people in a production, manufacturing, agricultural or similar environment

A practical, hands‑on approach — you’re happy working alongside the team rather than supervising from behind a desk

Good mechanical aptitude and confidence around plant and machinery

The ability to troubleshoot problems and make sensible decisions when things don’t go to plan

Strong organisational skills and the ability to coordinate people and production priorities

A calm, positive approach when working under pressure

Good communication skills and the confidence to work with people at all levels

A strong commitment to health and safety

Accountability — when something goes wrong, you deal with it and help find the solution.

Experience in agriculture, food processing, drying, milling or manufacturing would be particularly useful.
