Job summary

Gallagher's Hamilton site in New Zealand seeks a Process Engineer to optimise manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvement on a permanent day shift (7:00am–4:00pm, Monday to Friday). You will analyse processes, implement improvements and support production, maintenance and quality teams.

The role requires experience in manufacturing environments, knowledge of SMT/Coating processes, and strong Lean/Six Sigma capabilities, with a focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • NZQA qualification or Diploma in Engineering required.
  • Proven experience as a Process Engineer in manufacturing environment (regulated experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment and systems incl. SMT, selective soldering and conformal coating.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capability.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives independently.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse manufacturing processes to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and cost.
  • Develop and implement process optimisation strategies to improve productivity and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and best-practice methodologies.
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with Quality teams to ensure compliance with standards, regulations and customer requirements.
  • Support equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting to minimise downtime.
  • Provide technical support to resolve equipment and process-related issues.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by ensuring manufacturability, scalability and cost efficiency.
  • Develop, maintain and update process documentation, SOPs and training materials.
  • Train and support production teams on new processes, equipment use and safety protocols.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Process Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering function in Hamilton on a permanent day shift, working 7:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Process Engineering Lead, this role is responsible for optimising manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, safety, and performance standards are consistently met. You’ll analyse existing processes, implement improvements, and support both ongoing production and new product introductions.

This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys working independently, driving continuous improvement while partnering closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams.

You will:

Ideally, you’ll bring:
  • NZQA qualification, Diploma, or equivalent experience in Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related engineering field
  • Proven experience as a Process Engineer in a manufacturing environment (regulated experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems like Surface Mount Technology, Selective Soldering and Conformal Coating
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capability
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions
  • The ability to manage multiple initiatives independently
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
