Job summary

Transpower New Zealand is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across application development, integrations and software engineering practices. You’ll contribute across the full lifecycle from requirements to deployment and continuous improvement, working with architects, vendors and engineering teams.

You’ll help shape technical direction, uplift development capability and champion modern engineering practices within a Wellington-based, hybrid team

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software analysis, design and development.
• Experience leading application development initiatives and building engineering capability.
• Strong expertise in Java and modern Spring frameworks.
• Experience with DevOps toolchains, CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery practices.
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and large-scale system integration.
• Knowledge and experience using AI-assisted tools across the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and lifecycle management of business-critical applications and integrations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers across the team.
• Drive continuous improvement of development tools, standards, processes and practices.
• Champion DevOps, automation, secure development and agile delivery approaches.
• Collaborate with architects and solution designers to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
• Support ongoing reliability and performance of critical systems for NZ electricity sector.
• Partner with vendors and delivery partners to enhance engineering capability and outcomes.
