Job summary

Raurimu Avenue School in Whangārei is seeking a creative and courageous principal for Years 1–8. The role leads the school through exciting changes and strengthens ties with the community. Position to commence Term 1, 2027 or sooner by arrangement.

The successful candidate will champion CARE values, support bilingual development, engage with whanau, and foster an inclusive, trauma‑informed school culture that empowers staff and students alike.

This is an exciting career opportunity for an innovative, courageous teacher/principal who is looking to take on more challenges.

We are seeking a creative, courageous principal who has experience building strong links with the school community.

Raurimu Avenue School, in Onerahi, Whangarei is a small school with awesome students, committed staff and a diverse, inclusive community.

Ideally, we would like our whanau to be more involved with the school.

We are looking for a confident leader who:

• Is approachable and empathetic
• Has experience engaging and working with whanau
• Has empathy and understanding and is able to develop a school culture that is inclusive
• Has good knowledge of current pedagogical practice and developing a local curriculum
• Uses trauma informed lens to develop practices and embed trauma-informed principles and training within our school

• Empowers others to grow professionally
• Has a commitment to Ngā tikanga Māori and advancement of te reo Māori in our school
• Can lead/support the school to its strategic goal of being fully bilingual
• Understands equity issues so that every student gets what they need to succeed as individuals
• Has the ability to lead a team to have the same understanding of equity issues
• Works with Maori to nurture the child through whanau relationships
• Has integrity and a great sense of humour.
• Has proven teaching and leadership skills
