BNZ is seeking a Front End Developer to join our Colleague Digital tīma. This hybrid Wellington-based role requires delivering modern front-end interfaces for enterprise banking applications, using React and TypeScript, with collaboration across product and engineering teams.
You’ll work on a new platform for bankers to serve customer needs, with target state tech and resilient, user-friendly experiences. There’s a strong focus on engineering excellence, CI/CD, and modern development practices.

You’ll be joining a Technology tīma that is on a mission to ‘Reimagine banker experience & platforms to brilliantly serve customers’. We are unifying and simplifying our colleague experience so we can make BNZ the best place to be a banker. This role can be based in Wellington. It is a hybrid role with at least three days in the office.

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year? You’ll join one of our Colleague Digital teams, creating a new platform for our bankers to serve customer needs. This new experience is using target state technology and is intuitive and simple. We are proud of our relentless focus on delivering the best banker experience so our bankers can delight our customers.
What is the tīma culture and environment like? We're a vibrant mix of talented folks from all walks of life, coming together to innovate and collaborate in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We have a focus on being Engineering Led and our Product teams are passionate about building the right thing and building it right.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? We are creating a new platform where are bankers can view and maintain customer information and products. Bringing the stunning experience that our customers get when using our award winning Internet and Mobile banking – to our colleagues. This ambitious strategic programme is an opportunity to really shift the experience, giving our bankers modern, resilient and user friendly platforms – and we are looking for passionate people who want to be part of this.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this tūranga? Practical experience delivering modern front-end interfaces for enterprise applications. Drive adoption of advanced development practices and collaborate with other developers within the tīma and the wider Colleague Digital community. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly communicate ideas and designs to varied stakeholders. Monitor and resolve production incidents. Ensure systems remain current, resilient and meet Critical Hygiene Factors.
What specific tech skills are required for this role? Modern front-end tooling: React, TypeScript, NodeJS Modern front-end architecture patterns: State management, API abstraction Experience with modern testing frameworks Experience building and deploying code via CI/CD pipelines In addition, the following experience would be advantageous: RESTful APIs: Java Spring Boot and SQL desirable Micro-frontend architecture patterns Managing and configuring AWS Jest, RTL, Playwright
