Job summary

SLR Consulting is looking for a Principal Ecologist in Wellington, New Zealand, to develop and enhance client relationships in ecology. Responsibilities include preparing offers, delivering reports, and undertaking fieldwork in collaborative teams.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Ecology or a related field, along with over 10 years of consulting experience, excellent communication skills, and a working understanding of New Zealand environmental legislation. Flexible working arrangements are supported.

• Experience winning, leading, and managing projects in the field.

Job description

We are seeking a Principal Ecologist to develop, facilitate, and enhance client relationships and prepare offers for large ecology opportunities within our Ecology & Marine team. The role will include coaching other ecologists and ensuring high‑quality work.

Job Tasks And Responsibilities

• Preparing and leading offers of service for large ecology opportunities, focusing on terrestrial and freshwater ecology
• Developing, facilitating and enhancing effective relationships with clients and internal SLR team members
• Delivering clear and precise, high quality reports
• Undertaking fieldwork activities and resourcing the right teams on projects
• Working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects across a range of sectors

Skills And Experience

• Degree in Ecology or a related field
• 10+ years of consulting experience in Ecology with exceptional technical ability in terrestrial/freshwater ecology
• Experience winning, leading and managing projects
• Established network and proven ability to win work
• Experience preparing impact assessments and environmental risk assessments
• Working knowledge of New Zealand environmental legislation, policies, standards and guidelines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• New Zealand citizenship or right to work in New Zealand
• Excellent driving history and current driver's licence
