Job summary

Aroturuki Tamariki in Wellington seeks a Principal Advisor Learning and Development to lead the organisation's learning and development programme, translating complex needs into practical learning solutions and building organisational capability.

You will manage the LMS, design induction materials and online modules, facilitate sessions both in-person and virtually, and work with executive leadership and practitioners to turn data into accessible learning resources.

Qualifications

• Experience assessing learning needs and working with managers, subject matter experts and/or practice specialists to identify gaps and opportunities.
• Experience designing and developing effective learning and capability solutions, using current learning strategies suited to the content, audience and delivery context.
• Experience developing and maintaining learning and development strategies, programmes and calendars, preferably in the social sector.
• Engaging facilitation skills, with experience delivering in-person and virtual training, workshops or group learning sessions, and confidence using learning software and tools such as SCORM, Talent LMS, video creation tools and learning management system functionality.
• Strong organisation, project coordination, relationship management and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information and ideas for a wide range of people.

Responsibilities

Aroturuki Tamariki | Independent Children's Monitor provides oversight of the oranga tamariki system. We check that organisations supporting and working with tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) in the oranga tamariki system are meeting their needs, delivering services effectively, and improving outcomes. We do this by listening to the experiences of those in the system and analysing data, to provide insights that will drive continuous improvement for tamariki and rangatahi - particularly tamariki and rangatahi Māori and tamariki and rangatahi with disabilities.

The Principal Advisor Learning and Development is our learning specialist, with end-to-end responsibility for the organisation’s learning and development programme. This is an interesting and varied role in a great organisation with a meaningful work programme.

You will work with the executive leadership team, managers, the practice specialist team and subject matter experts to identify learning needs, agree objectives, and design practical solutions. You will lead the development of induction materials, online learning modules, guidance, tools and other resources that support consistent practice, shared understanding and organisational capability.

You will manage and maintain our learning management system, facilitate in-person and virtual training, support monitoring visit preparation hui, and advise on effective learning activities and external training providers. The role reports to the Manager Corporate and Performance and works across the organisation to turn complex information into engaging, accessible learning.
