Job summary

Ministry of Education New Zealand is seeking a Curriculum Advisor based in Auckland to support early learning, schools and kura with high-quality teaching and learning programmes.

You will work in a regional team, building partnerships with kaiako, whānau and iwi to focus on equitable learning outcomes and align with government curriculum priorities. Salary range provided; KiwiSaver is included.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships to achieve shared outcomes.
• Strong curriculum design expertise with literacy or maths teaching focus (early learning).
• Extensive knowledge of teaching/learning, leadership, and assessment theory.
• Experience with te ao Māori, Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori.
• Experience supporting curriculum design to improve outcomes for diverse communities.
• Good understanding of education contexts at a practical level.
• Diplomacy, interpersonal and facilitation skills for varied interactions.
• Willingness to travel across the region with a valid driver’s licence.
• Commitment to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

Curriculum Advisors are based in the regions and provide advice and support to early learning, schools and kura.

As a Curriculum Advisor, you will provide advice and support to teachers/kaiako and leadership teams in the development of high-quality teaching and learning programmes.

You will be part of a regional team working closely with early learning services to:

• Provide support on the development of teaching and learning programmes, including assessment practices, to support the implementation of government curriculum priorities to improve learning outcomes for all students.
• Identify and deliver high-quality curriculum support to meet the diverse educational needs of all tamariki, with a specific focus on equitable achievement of ākonga learning outcomes.
• Support early learning services to work alongside whānau, hapū and iwi to reflect the aspirations of their tamariki in teaching and learning programmes.
• Build collaborative networks within communities and actively share good practices.

Salary range: $100,296 - $115,132 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

• Proven experience in building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
• Strong, proven curriculum design expertise and a deep working knowledge and practical experience in literacy and communication or maths teaching (early learning), is essential.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching and learning, leadership, and curriculum and assessment theory and practice, with an ability to support professional change in education settings.
• Experience with te ao Māori and understanding of Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori - critical for Curriculum Advisers.
• Experiential knowledge and competencies in supporting curriculum design that has evidenced improved outcomes for diverse communities.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of education contexts at a practical level.
• Strong diplomacy, interpersonal and facilitation skills, with an ability to adapt to different interaction styles and contexts.
• Skills in leading and motivating others, and the ability to challenge, facilitate, supervise and coach kaiako/teachers to build capability, and where necessary, implement change.
• A full current driver’s licence as travel across the region will be required.
• The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake

The Education Services Group provides well-designed, integrated education services that support the impactful and effective operation of education settings to support student achievement and participation. The services help to remove barriers to participation and learning and provide regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.

The Group has three key priorities for Education Services:

• Practice & Guidance: Managing practice and guidance to improve national coordination and consistency, whilst enabling regional autonomy for education service delivery.
• Integration & Delivery: Providing education support directly to education settings via integrated regional and national services. This includes intervening when necessary to ensure a high standard of operation to support student outcomes and owning key stakeholder relationships to support schooling improvement and stronger outcomes for learners.
• Monitoring & Improvement: Monitoring and advising on improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of services for achievement and progression, and attendance and participation. This includes monitoring education provider performance against regulations and intervening as required.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level, including deep relationships with iwi and hapū. We service a geographic area that covers central and east Auckland, including the islands in the Hauraki Gulf (Waiheke and Aotea). We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled ākonga and/or ākonga with learning support needs, and ākonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.
