Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 16th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Tūhoe is an iwi with a clear vision for the future of wellness, and Te Uru Taumatua has a strategy in place to bring that vision to life.

Our vision recognises that lasting wellness is built within whānau, hapū and communities. We are working towards a future where hapū are equipped, empowered and supported to play a leading role in the prevention and management of chronic health conditions. As this capability grows, many of the challenges that currently present at our medical centres will increasingly be addressed within whānau and hapū settings.

Within this wider approach, our medical centres are an important part of the overall system of care. Their role is to provide high-quality clinical services and expertise when medical intervention is required, particularly for acute illness, injury and complex health needs. This reflects a broader Tūhoe vision where wellness is led by whānau and hapū, with health services contributing their specialist expertise as one part of a wider community-led approach.

As we move into the next phase of this journey, we are seeking an experienced and capable Practice Manager to oversee our growing network of medical centres.

About the Role:

This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the operational management of Tūhoe Medical Centres within our rōhe.

You will provide oversight, coordination and leadership across the network, ensuring our clinics operate efficiently, remain compliant, deliver excellent patient experiences and provide a supportive environment for our clinical teams.

Both Kawerau and Taneatua Medical Centres have dedicated Practice Assistants who manage many of the day-to-day administrative and operational requirements. Your role is not to be caught in the daily detail, but to provide the leadership, systems, oversight and support that enables our teams to perform at their best.

We are looking for someone who can balance strategic thinking with practical execution and who thrives in an environment of growth, change and continuous improvement.

What You'll Be Responsible For:
  • Leading the operational performance of all Tūhoe Medical Centre sites
  • Supporting and developing clinic teams to achieve high standards of service delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative, contractual and accreditation requirements
  • Monitoring quality systems, risk management and health and safety practices
  • Managing budgets, resources and operational planning
  • Supporting workforce planning, recruitment and staff development
  • Building strong relationships with clinicians, kaimahi, whānau and key stakeholders
  • Identifying opportunities for service improvement and operational efficiency
  • Helping ensure our clinics are well positioned for the next phase of the Tūhoe Health System development
About You:

You are a calm, capable and experienced leader who understands what it takes to successfully manage primary healthcare services and you will bring:

  • Proven experience in practice management, health service management or a similar operational leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of primary healthcare operations and compliance requirements
  • Experience leading teams across multiple locations or services
  • Excellent organisational, financial and people management skills
  • The ability to navigate change while maintaining service quality and team engagement
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A solutions-focused mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement
Why Join Us?

This is not a traditional Practice Manager role.

You will be joining a health service that understands its purpose within a much bigger picture. Rather than expecting clinics to carry responsibility for all aspects of wellness, Tūhoe is building a future where whānau and hapū are increasingly equipped to support lifelong wellbeing, while medical centres focus on providing exceptional clinical care when it is needed.

For an experienced Practice Manager, this offers a unique opportunity to lead clinics that are part of an evolving and innovative model of healthcare, while remaining focused on delivering operational excellence and outstanding patient care.

We offer:

  • A meaningful leadership role within a kaupapa-driven organisation
  • The opportunity to oversee multiple sites across the Tūhoe rohe
  • A capable team with dedicated Practice Assistants supporting daily operations
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment
  • Professional growth and development opportunities
  • The chance to help shape operational excellence across a forward-thinking medical centre network

If you are an experienced Practice Manager who brings strong operational leadership, adaptability and a passion for delivering quality healthcare services, we would love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from people with a range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. What matters most is your ability to contribute to our kaupapa and the requirements of the role. Applicants must already be legally entitled to live and work in New Zealand at the time of application.

Apply today and join our committed and passionate team as we continue strengthening our medical centre network and delivering outstanding care to our communities.
