Job summary

Te Papa Atawhai is seeking a Practice Manager – Project Management to lead a team of Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators within Digital Products and Delivery. You will design practical PM practices, drive governance, and ensure work is scoped, sequenced, resourced, and governed effectively.

You’ll partner with Product Managers and other Practice Managers to keep delivery aligned, navigate changing priorities, and continuously improve how projects are delivered in

Qualifications

• Strong experience leading project managers and building a high-performing team.
• Significant experience delivering complex digital/tech projects.
• Experience establishing or leading a project management practice with frameworks and standards.
• Pragmatic approach: know when structure helps and when flexibility matters.
• Ability to challenge processes and simplify where value is gained.
• Creative delivery thinking adaptable to problems, people and outcomes.
• Knowledge of governance, assurance, risk and dependency management.
• Ability to manage competing priorities amid ambiguity.

• Oversee portfolio priorities, dependencies, risks and resources across projects.
• Step in to recover projects, unblock teams and keep things moving.
• Provide clear, pragmatic advice to sponsors and governance groups when needed.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and other Practice Managers to stay aligned across Digital Products and Delivery.
• Use data and feedback to continually improve delivery practices.
