Job summary

DOC is seeking a Practice Manager – Project Management in Wellington to lead a team of Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and Coordinators within Digital Products and Delivery. You will establish practical PM approaches, coach staff, and drive delivery with a focus on measurable outcomes while simplifying complexity.

You will influence sponsors and governance groups, balance competing priorities, and ensure work is well-scoped, resourced and governed.

Qualifications

• Strong experience leading project managers and building a high-performing team.
• Experience delivering complex digital or technology projects.
• Experience establishing or leading a project management practice with frameworks and standards.
• Pragmatic approach to PM; balance structure and flexibility.
• Knowledge of governance, assurance, risk and dependency management.
• Ability to navigate competing priorities and changing circumstances.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of project management professionals.
• Build practical project management approaches, tools and ways of working.
• Simplify processes and remove unnecessary friction.
• Provide clear advice to sponsors and governance groups when needed.
• Keep delivery aligned across Digital Products and Delivery.
• Manage priorities, dependencies, risks and resources across the portfolio.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and other Practice Managers to ensure cohesive delivery.
• Use lessons learned and data to continually improve delivery.
