Job summary

Department of Conservation - Te Papa Atawhai is seeking a Practice Manager – Project Management to lead a team of Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and Project Coordinators within Digital Products and Delivery. You will build a practical PM practice that provides structure without over-processing, working with Product Managers, sponsors and governance groups across DOC.

Qualifications

Strong experience leading project managers and building a high-performing team.
Experience delivering complex programmes, ideally in a digital or technology environment.
Experience establishing or leading a project management practice with frameworks and standards.
Pragmatic PM approach: when to structure and when to stay flexible.
Ability to question processes and simplify non-value-added steps.
Creative delivery thinking matched to problems, people, and outcomes.
Knowledge of governance, assurance, risk, and dependency management.
Ability to handle competing priorities amid ambiguity and change.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop a team of project management professionals.
Build practical and consistent PM approaches, tools and ways of working.
Simplify processes to reduce friction and deliver better outcomes.
Encourage adaptable delivery approaches rather than a single methodology.
Monitor portfolio priorities, dependencies, risks and resources.
Step in to recover difficult deliveries and unblock teams.
Provide pragmatic advice to sponsors and governance groups.
Collaborate with Product Managers and other Practice Managers to align delivery.
